Heavy freight & vehicle lifts

Innovation Square, Birmingham, UK.

In 2002 Alimak, through its sister company Alimak Hek Ltd were able to solve a parking problem for an executive office building at Innovation Square, in the heart of Birmingham.

Due to lack of space within the building, a car ramp could not be built, so a car lift was required to allow employees to park their vehicles, in the basement of the building. This system would ease traffic congestion in the surrounding area, as well as guaranteeing places to park for employees.

Alimak Hek Ltd won the contract thanks to its unique space, time, and cost saving, rack and pinion design. The rack and pinion drive system means that there is no need for a machine room or supportive lift shaft. The drive unit is housed on the lift car itself, saving space and installation time compared with a standard traction or hydraulically driven lift.

The lift doors at the upper ground level are operated via an infra-red beam mounted in   special  key fobs provided to the client’s staff and traffic movement is controlled via a  light signalling system inside the lift car and at both landing levels. Inside, the lift is operated by a single contact strip mounted the full length of both side walls.
